Countdown to a Day to Move the World

The authors of the forthcoming book, The Letters that Moved the World, are spearheading a movement toward an International Day of Gratitude a day that has an ambitious purpose.

With all the buzz around the concept of gratitude, authors Cori Ashley and Jason Loken are proposing a way to put gratitude into action to create positive change in the world. Based on the principles in their book, The Letters that Moved the World: Intentional Acts of Gratitude, which details both scientific and anecdotal evidence of the tangible power of gratitude, Ashley and Loken are working to establish January 7, 2010, and every January 7th thereafter, as International Gratitude Day (G-Day). It is intended to be the day that launches expressions of gratitude into a single focused "moment" for positive change.

Writing and sending letters of gratitude throughout the year is the foundation of the process. On G-Day (January 7) the people who have written gratitude letters send cards, emails, notes, or other form of communication, reminding their letter recipients that they are appreciated. This is intended to bring the many expressions of gratitude into a powerful focus on a single day.

The effort is supported by a website, www.lettersthatmovedtheworld.com. Visitors to the site can follow the countdown clock to G-Day, read letters others have written that can inspire their own heartfelt expression of gratitude, track news related to G-Day, and read blogs and articles on the profound, life-changing and world-changing power of gratitude.

Initial efforts to spread the word involve grass roots campaigns employing blogs and email networks as well as media interviews with the authors and the five primary contributors to the book whose reflections comprise one of the book's chapters. These five are a diplomat working in Africa, a Montessori school teacher, a cancer survivor, a naturopathic doctor, and a college student in the aftermath of family crisis.

Their vision holds strong in the belief that every person has the ability to truly make a difference...

Our Vision

What we are proposing is the opportunity for you to make history. To be a part of something that will move the world. To know the impact that one Heart can make on the Heart of another. To live the joy of knowing that your life matters and, through this knowing, realize that all of us matter.

Jason & Cori.
